Fetus 3D printing

Fetus 3D printing

Postby barnwick on Thu Jan 22, 2009 8:39 pm

Has anyone seen the place in the UK that is offering mothers bronze models of their unborn babies? After 24 weeks of pregnancy, the London Ultrasound Centre uses ultrasound images to build a model of the fetus using a 3D printer. This model is used as a mold to create the final bronze casting. It costs about $1,800! Link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... l#comments

Here's another option: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=7966629&page=1

With this version, the 3D print is the final product. Technique of using ultrasound and MRI data was developed by Brazilian designer Jorge Lopes. Rapid prototyping models of fetuses are being featured in an exhibition at London's Royal College of Art.

Yes, you can do this now. There are a number of ways to do that with existing technology in dentistry, such as iTero (Cadent) and COS (3M ESPE). These use an intraoral scanner. You can also use the 3 Shape scanner, and print models off of your scanned model. Finally, there is another method (used to make Invisalign etc) that utilizes a CT Scan of the impression. Conta me if you'd like to talk about it.

After my wife has been ultrasound, the 3D image of our baby fetus was printed. Even though it is not yet too clear it really touches my heart seeing our baby. It is amazing to see the little life inside my wife's womb. Did Lope did the MRI? Ultrasound Repair Training

I really do love this idea....

Can it be marketed though is the question?

Has anyone done this ? Tried it? Printed it?

Not people you find online, really people here on this site....

Well that would be a great news for couples who would like to have a copy of molded of their unborn baby. I believe the process is a little bit longer than the normal ultrasound. Doesn't it affect the baby inside the womb?
