Yes, you can do this now. There are a number of ways to do that with existing technology in dentistry, such as iTero (Cadent) and COS (3M ESPE). These use an intraoral scanner. You can also use the 3 Shape scanner, and print models off of your scanned model. Finally, there is another method (used to make Invisalign etc) that utilizes a CT Scan of the impression.
